(1)  In most cities surface water is removed by underground piping systems, and this in turn prevents localized flooding by diverting the flow of water  as quickly as possible.  However, this also changes the flow of natural water patterns and disrupts habitats and environments.  A well-maintained drainage system can lead excess rainwater to where it should go and prevent erosion around your home at the same time.

(6)  When comparing estimates, make sure each one is based on (a) same scope of work, (b) same set of specifications, (c) the same set of plans.  If your contractor suggests deviations, ask that they be presented as options.

(7)  Contractors should carry personal liability insurance.  Avoid doing business with contractors who don’t cary the appropriate insurance.  Otherwise, you may be held liable for any injuries and damages that occur during a project.

(8)  Use a well known and reputable company who you can always find in the future, or be able to easily contact for any reason.  You want an established company with an office that you can go to if you ever need personal contact.

(9)  Require that any company representative (regardless of service category) consulting with you on your job, service or project, completely understand every detail about their product and services, product features and benefits, installation specifications, warranty information and the like.
