(1) Frequent thorough vacuuming (1-2 times a week depending on soiling) will increase the life of the carpet and area rugs.

(2) Invest in a quality vacuum cleaner with HEPA filtration capability.

(3) Remove stains quickly. When spills occur, use (seltzer water or 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water) and colorfast towel to blot up spill. Never dig or rub a spot. Most spot cleaners available contain significant detergents often resulting in residue build up. Absorb as much of the moisture as possible.

(4) Recommend cleaning carpets approximately every 9 to 12 months depending on traffic and care.

(5) Always rinse treated areas after a spotting agent has been used and blot with several layers of paper toweling.

(6) HVAC filters should be cleaned or changed regularly, depending on the type MERV Rating (Efficiency Rating/Change Frequency). Dirty inside circulating air will result in more dust circulating, therefore more air particulates settling in your carpet or area rugs.

(7) Pet accidents are most effectively cleaned by a professional carpet cleaning company. Pet urine should be treated as soon as possible. As a short term fix the homeowner can use a mixture of one part white vinegar to two parts water. Lightly spray the area with the mixture and use a white color fast towel. Continue process until smell is reduced to an acceptable level.

(8) If you experience frequent 'reappearing spots' and accelerated resoiling, it may be time to find a new professional carpet cleaning company.

(9) If your air duct for your air conditioning and heating system (ducting system) has not been cleaned, you may want to consider cleaning them as they can be a source of accumulated dust and would continue to contribute to more then usual carpet cleaning intervals.

(10) Employ walk-off mats at major entrances to your home.

(11) Wrinkles in carpet should be re-stretched as soon as possible to prevent carpet damage and premature wearing.

(12) Comparison shopping should be based on reputation, reliability, experience and price ‘value’, not just the lowest price of all proposals presented.
