(1) Hire a reputable experienced contractor that can provide customer references similar to the work you are getting done.
(2) Do your homework; search the web for colors, textures and patterns for patios, driveways, pool decks, etc.
(3) When you are ready to start your project contact several contractors and note response time.
(4) Get written estimates; consider timelines and thoroughness of bids. Ask if a sample is provided and discuss any special circumstances about your project.
(5) Do your due diligence and check the contractors’ references.
(6) Make sure you get a signed contract, (no verbal agreements) that includes a payment schedule.
(7) Make sure you make any scheduled payments on time so you don’t delay the project.
(8) Get any warranties in writing in the event any problems arrive in the future.
(9) Make sure you get instructions for proper maintenance of your project to avoid future problems.
(10) Contractors should carry personal liability insurance and workers compensation insurance. Avoid doing business with contractors who don’t carry the appropriate insurance. Otherwise, you may be held liable for any injuries and damages that can occur during a project.
